SRI LANKA SUMMIT
World Buddhist Supreme Conference Head Quarters Representatives together with Secretary General Most Ven. Weragoda Sarada Maha Nayake Thero visited Sri Lanka in December 2016, to meet Government Representatives including Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe ,Minister of Justice and Buddha Sasana with the intention of holding the 7th World Buddhist Summit 2017 in Sri Lanka.
Accepting the request to hold the 7th World Buddhist Summit in Sri Lanka and assuring of the support of His Excellency The President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremasinghe, an Initial discussions was held with Secretary General Most Ven. Weragoda Sarada Maha Nayake Thero and 7th World Buddhist Summit 2017 Organizing Committee Chairman Hon. Thilanga Sumathipala, Representative of Ministry of Buddha Sasana and other members.
The 7th World Buddhist Summit, which is the Supreme Worldwide Buddhist Conference, will be held from the 2nd – 7th November 2017 in Sri Lanka as a National Event.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 02nd November 2017 with a participation of 300 Buddhist Supreme Leaders and Delegates and 300 distinguish guests that includes Members of Royal Families, Heads of States and Prime Ministers from 54 countries. With the participation of the most venerable clergy and distinguish guests, we are expecting approximately 3000 participants for the Opening Ceremony.
